ISDN Development Activities
implementation of plans to provide the McDonald's Corporation with
advanced ISDN communications equipment for use in Illinois Bell's field
trial, which utilizes the AT&T 5ESS switch.
March 1987
Hayes joins the U S West (Pacific Northwest Bell) ISDN trial with the
U.S. National Bank of Oregon. Terminal Adapter Equipment provided by
Hayes connects Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to ISDN service on
Northern Telecom's DMS-100 switch.
First public demonstration of Hayes ISDN PC Card at the International
Switching Symposium in Phoenix, with AT&T, Northern Telecom and U S West.
June 1987
Hayes chosen to participate in the first commercial use of ISDN
technology by Southern Bell with service to begin in March 1988. Hayes
plans to use the basic rate ISDN lines for engineering development,
testing and demonstration of Hayes ISDN PC Card.
September 1987
Pacific Bell announces Hayes as a customer in ISDN technical tests. The
Hayes San Francisco facility uses lines for engineering development.
October 1987
First European demonstrations of Hayes ISDN PC Card, with AT&T and
Philips Telecommunications (APT), Northern Telecom, the Austrian, Dutch
and Belgian PTTs in Geneva, Switzerland at the Telecom '87 exhibition.
March 1988
At Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, Hayes uses Basic Rate ISDN lines
provided from Southern Bell via an AT&T 5ESS switch in the Dunwoody
central office.

Live ISDN connections demonstrated by Hayes at Spring COMDEX '88 in
Atlanta, Georgia.
June 1988
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ISDN Users Forum
(formerly known as National Bureau of Standards), meets to establish
guidelines for implementing ISDN. ISDN users, including Hayes, agree to
request that ISDN implementors provide functionality through a common,
compatible user metaphor.
September 1988
Hayes continues participation with NIST when it conducts first joint
meeting of ISDN users and implementors.
October 1988
At the National Centrex Users Group show in Houston, Texas, Hayes ISDN PC
Card is used to conduct a variety of communications tasks.
January 1989
Hayes is the first ISDN CPE vendor to provide hardware at AT&T Bell
Laboratories for testing with pre-release software generics, most notably
5ESS version 5.0, illustrating the value of CPE and switch vendor
cooperation.
Hayes continues participating with the NIST sponsored North American ISDN
Users (NIU) Forum as a member of the ISDN Users Workshop (IUW) and the
ISDN Implementors Workshop (IIW).
March 1989
For the first time, commercially available modem applications are
demonstrated using the industry standard Hayes AT Command Set on-board
Hayes ISDN PC Card at the AT&T sponsored NetPower '89 Showcase of ISDN
applications in Scottsdale, Arizona.
NIST convenes the second joint NIU forum of 1989 for Users and
Implementors, and Hayes actively participates.
April 1989
Hayes demonstrates at the 1989 International ISDN Exposition sponsored by
Information Gatekeepers. An inter-booth demonstration on ISDN LAN
software is exhibited in addition to standard modem applications.
May 1989
At the International Communications Association (ICA) show in Dallas,
Texas, Hayes demonstrates in the special ISDN showcase section with a more
sophisticated ISDN LAN software display, screen sharing, and file transfer
applications running on Hayes ISDN PC Card.
June 1989
For the first time, Hayes ISDN PC Cards are used in demonstrating image
file transfer between Wang PC's and minicomputers at the 1989 Association
for Information and Image Management (AIIM) trade show in San Francisco,
California.
The third joint NIU Forum is sponsored by NIST in Boston, Massachusetts,
and Hayes offers contributions from the user perspective.
August 1989
Hayes implements Early Placement Program to develop real experience in
customer locations with ISDN management issues, with over 15 sites across
North America participating during the program.
October 1989
Hayes begins program to provide Hayes ISDN PC Card evaluation units to
potential resellers.
November 1989
At the National Centrex User Group meeting in Atlanta, Hayes demonstrates
Hayes ISDN PC Card in AT&T's booth. The demonstration focuses on ManyLink
LAN, Smartcom III, HyperAccess, and connections to Hayes headquarters VAX
for electronic mail.
December 1989
Hayes announces a formal alliance with GPT, Europe's largest PABX
supplier, to develop, manufacture and distribute advanced products for
ISDN networks.
January 1990
Mid-1990 availability of Hayes ISDN PC Adapter is announced.
March 1990
Hayes sponsors Software Developers' Conference in Atlanta, and over 50
third party developers attend. Technical sessions are held concerning
Hayes modem technology with emphasis on ISDN software development
implementing Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN and Hayes ISDNBIOS.
July 1990
Hayes ISDN PC Adapter units are available at substantial discounts to
qualified third party software developers.
September 1990
Northern Telecom Canada announces M5000TD1 to Canadian market. The
M5000TD1 is a stand-alone ISDN terminal adapter supporting Hayes Standard
AT Command Set for ISDN. The product was jointly developed by Hayes and
Northern Telecom Canada and is manufactured by Hayes for Northern Telecom
Canada.

Hayes announces availability of ISDN PC Adapter and comprehensive
training and support plan for developers, resellers and end users.
April 1991
Hayes participates in Bellcore CPE Workshop,15 - 16 April 1991, Atlanta.
Hayes announces May 1991 availability of Hayes ISDN System Adapter.
More than ten software developers have application programs available for
Hayes ISDN System Adapter and Hayes ISDN PC Adapter.

Hayes, Siemens in PBX and Computer Teaming Agreement: Siemens to
incorporate ISDNBIOS into telephone to PC application interface.
November 1991
Hayes and GPT open ISDN Applications Laboratory and co-host European
Developers Conference in UK.
Hayes participates in U S West Small Business ISDN Conference.
Hayes participates in COS (Corporation for Open Systems) National ISDN-1
Planning Meeting.

Hayes announces Hayes ISDN Extender - Low-cost ISDN connectivity to NeXT
computers.
